Our Club Championship Week went off without a hitch and some quality golf was played on each of the days of competition. Congratulations are extended below to our 2021 Club Champions:
Joanne Atkins – Ladies’ Club Champion
Maxim French – Men’s Club Champion
Lia Donath – Ladies’ Senior Club Champion
Martin Vertigen – Men’s Senior Club Champion
Xiaoyu Valev – Ladies’ Handicap Champion
Sebastian Wren – Men’s Handicap Champion
Ted Taylor – Men’s Senior Handicap Champion
The courses were set fair for each day of play as the scores confirmed. We witnessed under par net scores on each of the days, as well as under par gross scores from our Men’s Club Champion.
Shooting three under gross, Max French won the title again playing very solid golf. A second round 70 (two under) on the Old Course on Sunday was probably the pick of the week as the breeze came from the north with a mist hanging in the air. From a handicap perspective, Sebastain Wren shot an amazing nine under around the Coronation Course on Saturday and was able to defend that position on Sunday around the Old Course. Good luck off your new handicap Sebastian.
Jo Atkins, pictured above with the Lady Captain, used her mental strength to guide herself to the win on Sunday having shot a great 80 gross on the Coronation Course on Saturday. It is never easing playing from the lead, so very well done. Xiaoyu Valev played some very consistent and quality golf over the two days, taking the handicap prize by five strokes with a nett score of five under. Jason Neve is her coach should anyone wish to book a lesson…
36 points is always a good score on the Old Course which is what Lia Donath managed in the Ladies’ Senior Championship. A score matched by a few in the Men’s division, although Ted Taylor proved that if you stay out the rough anything is possible. A nett 67 saw Ted take the Men’s Senior Handicap title, a great score.
Completing the list of winners was Martin Vertigen who defended his Men’s Senior Club Championship title with a gross 77. Well played Martin, let us see if you can make it three in a row next year.
Well played to all and thank you for all the positive feedback on the courses. It is always nice to showcase the courses for the Club Championship Week and I hope you all enjoyed them.
