Tom's Great North Run Fundraiser
Tom Devaney is raising money for Samaritans
I lived in Newcastle years ago – the Great North Run was always a big event for me back then but as a hotel manger. I often said ‘one day’ but never really thought I could attempt to take part. Fast forward to now and after getting my fitness in check over the past few years, I feel ready to take on the GNR challenge in 2026.
I’ve decided to fundraise for the Samaritans, sadly we have experienced loss by suicide in our family and my wife, Denise is now a listening volunteer for our local Samaritans branch.
Many people find it hard to speak openly or ask for help, but talking can be life-saving – whether it’s with a colleague, family member, friend or helpline like Samaritans. Every 10 seconds, Samaritans volunteers respond to a call for help. Samaritans are available, for free, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to listen and support people with whatever they are facing, with no judgement. It’s only your kind donations and 23,000 listening volunteers that ensure Samaritans can always be there for anyone struggling to cope.
Thank you for your support!
