Woodcote Park has a well-established and popular Men's Golf section with regularly organised competitions for annual golf pass holders. For the more occasional player, golf may be played by members on payment of a green fee. Members can also apply for one of the limited number of annual golf passes.
The ladies golf section was established at Woodcote Park in 1999 and now has over 200 lady golf pass holders. Under the leadership of the current Lady Captain, Sally Horsburgh, and with the support of the Ladies Golf Committee, the section is a thriving part of the golf community.
The Committee
The Ladies Golf Committee and the Estate Office manage the section and the present committee has five members:
Sally Horsburgh – Lady Captain
Jan Vanstone – Past Lady Captain
Sue Pearl
Lesley Webb
Christine Harrison
The Golf Captain, Anthony Spooner, is an ex officio member. Meetings are held monthly chaired by the Lady Captain.
The Lady Captain also serves on the Golf Committee and the House Committee for the period of her captaincy.
Competitions
Competitions are held weekly on a Tuesday. These are a mix of both fun and qualifying competitions open to ladies with CONGU handicaps. Events and competitions are publicised on the notice board in the ladies locker room and are managed by the Estate Office.
To enter a competition please sign your name up on the relevant competition sheet. These are posted approximately 3-4 weeks in advance of the date. Please do take note of your playing partners so you can contact them and the Estate Office if you have to cancel. Cancellations within 24 hours of your tee time are monitored by the Ladies Golf Committee and ‘no shows’ on the day are penalised with a three match ban.
Matches
The section play a number of friendly matches from spring to autumn and also take part in the Pearson Trophy and other interclub events. Full details and sign up sheets for these are again posted in the ladies locker room.
Weekend Golf
A growing number of ladies meet and play golf at the weekend. As with midweek ladies golf there are regular qualifying competitions throughout the year as well as friendly golf. The section is efficiently run by the weekend ladies golf co-ordinator, Christine Harrison, and there is a separate notice board with sign up lists in the ladies locker room.
Mixed Golf
Mixed golf events are publicised in the diary and posted on the mixed notice board in the 19th Hole. These include interclub matches, roll-ups, bank holiday honours board competitions and the mixed knockout. Mixed golf is run by jointly by Charles Howard and Jenny Guymer.
New Lady Golf Pass Holders
Starting in September the Ladies Golf Committee will be operating a ‘buddy’ system for all new lady golf pass holders. Further information will be available in the Estate Office from August.
Handicaps
If you have a golf pass and are now ready to apply for a handicap, then you need to put in three cards to the Estate Office, one of which must be good enough to be awarded a 36 handicap. Cards must be for 18 holes on either course and be marked by anyone with an official handicap. If you need someone to mark a card for you, please speak to one of the Committee or the Estate Office.
Contact
Please contact the Estate Office in the first instance who will then pass on your details to the relevant person:

The Midweek Golfing Veterans section was established in 1973, with the encouragement and support of the Royal Automobile Club Golf Committee to organise, within the Rules of the Club, midweek golfing activities suitable for retired members. The aim is to foster a spirit of friendship and amicable rivalry among older members of the Club.
Eligibility
To qualify for membership members must be retired from full-time employment and be aged 60 or over. Possession of a golf pass with the Club is preferable but not essential. An official handicap is necessary for competition purposes. Midweek Golfing Veterans without an official Club handicap will be unable to play in matches and competitions but are otherwise welcome to participate fully in Veterans’ activities. For Veterans without a golf pass, standard green fees will be payable to the Club in the usual way.
Competitions: Stableford, stroke and Greensome competitions are arranged throughout the year.
Matches
Approximately 20 matches are played with veteran teams from other clubs. A Winter League has been set up with four other clubs and their Veteran members. A match is also played against the Royal Automobile Club Ladies section.
Roll ups
The Veterans are allocated the following times on one of the courses for roll up on Tuesdays and Thursdays: winter 8.02am to 8.58am, extended to 9.22am on the second Thursday of each month, and in summer 7.30am to 8.26am, extended to 8.50am on the second Thursday of each month. Starting times are allocated strictly in order of checking in. Normal play is four-ball better ball with the highest and lowest handicappers in each four playing together against the middle two.
Social Events
A Veteran Members Guest Day is held during the month of June. Dinners are held at the Club approximately quarterly for veteran members and their guests. A Christmas lunch is held annually in December.
The Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting for the Midweek Golfing Members takes place in January to consider reports of the previous years activities, to elect members of the Committee, to determine the amount of the annual subscription, and to consider any other matters relevant to the section.
The Committee
A Committee appointed by the Annual Meeting is responsible for organising and arranging the activities of the section and reporting thereon to the Annual Meeting. The Committee liaises with the Royal Automobile Club Golf Committee, to ensure harmonious relationships with the Club and its wider activities.
