“Talent does not have a gender. At 3.15pm on May 4, history will be made at Hockenheim as 18 of the world’s best female drivers line up on the grid for the inaugural race in the W Series calendar. They will drive identical versions of this cutting-edge Tatuus T-318, and while the world will be watching the racing, we’ll be looking for that spark of genius that will eventually drive the first woman onto a Formula 1 podium,” Catherine Bond Muir, CEO W Series.
Publicly launched on 10 October 2018, the W Series is a single-seater racing championship which aims to encourage greater female participation in motorsport. The inaugural W Series season will begin in May 2019 with races organised by the British Racing and Sports Car Club (BRSCC). The Series will feature six races— Hockenheim, Zolder, Misano, Norisring, Assen, and finally Brands Hatch—as part of the support series for the German DTM Championship .
The Tatuus T-318 Formula 3 car is fully homologated to the latest FIA Formula 3 specification (as below). All drivers will race cars equipped with the identical engine, transmission, and the safety feature (cited below).
