The world of BTCC and its tintops has been brought to a grinding halt by the impact of Coronavirus. Scheduled to accelerate off the start line at Donington Park this weekend, for now the championship and its fans will have to wait a little longer. To help those suffering from a lack of track-action, we look back at our chats with two of the BTCC greats who visited the Club to each record a podcast with us.
Dick Bennetts Podcast – Watch Here
Dick Bennetts has helped a stellar list of racing drivers find their way from the junior formulae to become Formula 1 World Champions. In recent years Dick has moved from open-wheel racing to tin tops and the British Touring Car Championship, taking the 2016 and 2017 Manufacturer’s crown.
Dick joined us at our Woodcote Park clubhouse to share some of the stories that have become legend including the rise of Ayrton Senna and his battles with Martin Brundle in Formula 3, the challenges in European Formula 3 between his West Surrey Racing driver, Mika Hakkinen, and the young Michael Schumacher and his move into touring cars.
With nearly 40 years of racing experience, Dick also talks about his curious attachment to his trusty stopwatch, despite the advances of technology.
Colin Turkington Podcast – Watch Here
We spoke to Colin at the end of the 2018 season, looking back at his most recent Championship win, and looking ahead to the 2019 season which would of course bring him another Championship. The then three-time British Touring Car Championship winner joined us at our Woodcote Park clubhouse to talk about his recent BTCC season win and his strict training regime and an odd link to the female pop band, Atomic Kitten.
Hopefully it won’t be too long until BTCC fans can get into gear for the new season. Until then, take care and enjoy browsing some of our other Club podcasts recorded with motorsport greats.
