The Downs Trail

28 - 02 - 2022

After very careful consideration of the results of the trial period, the Woodcote Park Committee has decided to keep the path from the woodland, past the Coronation Course and out onto Langley Vale open permanently. However, there are no plans to extend it within the foreseeable future.

A detailed evaluation of the trial period was carried out by a Working Group of members, according to criteria set out at the start of the trial. Feedback was obtained by email, a variety of online surveys and 230 face-to-face interviews.

Taking into account the feedback received from all areas, the number of rounds played and the duration of the trial, it was concluded that any risk associated with the current section of the Downs Trail is low and that the impact on golf has also been low, with the main effect being short delays while walkers are allowed to pass. Walkers using the Trail have been overwhelmingly positive about it.

Over the coming weeks – in readiness for better weather – the signage and waymarking will be reviewed to ensure that the route and the precautions walkers and golfers should take are clear to all. Additional information will also be made available about the 641 acre Centenary Wood in Langley Vale which can now be accessed on foot directly from Woodcote Park.
