Some 250 people gathered at Woodcote Park on Tuesday 11 June to wish good luck to the borough’s Surrey Youth Games team. Alongside many of the competitors, their parents and coaches, was the Mayor of Epsom and Ewell, Councillor John Beckett as well as Councillor Hannah Dalton and the Council’s Chief Executive, Kathryn Beldon.
The reception, provided as part of the Club’s community engagement programme, was the first opportunity for the whole of ‘Team Epsom and Ewell’ to come together before the Games this weekend. Speaking at the reception, Club Secretary, Miles Wade commented, “Congratulations on being selected; it is wonderful to see you here with your parents and coaches. It has also been a delight to hear about the progress made by the tennis and squash players who have been training here over recent weeks with our professional coaches. The Royal Automobile Club has been at Woodcote Park since 1913 and sport has always been a big part of what we do here.
“Young people are also important to us. Next Easter we will be opening new purpose-built children’s facilities for our members to use, which will include a swimming pool and a variety of outdoor play areas. We therefore hope to welcome more young people and their families to Woodcote Park in the future.”
