We are very much looking forward to welcoming you back to the squash courts from Monday 12 April onwards.
The refurbishment of the Club Room Terrace, which is directly above Court 1, has revealed considerable water ingress which is affecting the ceiling of the court. The work to rectify this is currently taking place and is scheduled to be completed by the end of May.
The work being undertaken is extensive: the waterproofing of the terrace will be completed this week (week ending 9 April) and the removal of the existing Court 1 ceiling has already started. This includes temporarily removing the original glass windows which date back to when the area was the Club’s fencing salle! Next will come the cleaning, repairs, and replacement works to the steel and concrete in the ceiling, the painting of the steel for the pool environment and then, finally, the replacement of the glass and the installation of a new ceiling over the court.
As part of this project, we are also removing a wall on the left side of the balcony by Court 1 to create extra space for viewing. The final layout of this area is being considered by the Squash Committee and management to ensure that the best use is made of this space to enhance our ability to view squash events.
Once the waterproofing above Court 1 is complete, it will be possible to undertake decorative work to the ceilings and paintwork around our other courts. This will see staggered closure of different areas as the work is completed.
During this work there will. Inevitably, be some noise and disruption. Court 1 and the surrounding area is sealed off to limit the impact on member experience on the other courts and the pool area.
We apologise in advance for any disruption or inconvenience caused. The end result will be sparkling new ceilings and areas on and around the courts for us all to enjoy in the future.
