Silverstone Classic - A Club Roundup

As ever Silverstone Classic proved to be a brilliant spectacle for historic enthusiasts with the Club enjoying a healthy presence both on and off the track.

The Club’s Tourist Trophy For Historic Cars (Pre ’63 GT)
There was plenty of Club action going on around the track, with fourteen marques lining up at the startline for the Club’s Historic Tourist Trophy. After a tight race it was won by members’ Martin Hunt and Patrick Blakeney-Edwards in the former’s menacingly unpainted AC. There was some great dicing between James Cottingham and Jon Minshaw in the first session with the safety car benefitting Martin and Patrick in the end.

The Stirling Moss Trophy
With the rain adding brilliant drama for spectators, the Stirling Moss Trophy was won by Olly Bryant in his Lotus 15.

Club Member’s Concours Win
It was also a winning day for Club member Geoff Peters whose 1972 DeTomaso Pantera GT5, recently displayed at the Club’s Midsummer Drive-In, was voted the winner of the impressive lineup of cars in the ‘Yokohama Supercar Legends’ enclosure. Geoff was awarded the prize by the Managing Director of Yokohama.

The car was supplied back to Geoff from the body shop on Tuesday afternoon minus an engine box and a host of other parts. It was a rush to reassemble the car for early Friday as there were still a few bugs to sort out! One of the ears also blew on the motorway up due to not being properly fixed, but the Pantera made it to Silverstone – and good job!

For the first year the Club shared a marquee with Motor Racing Legends offering information to visitors on its upcoming events – from its inaugural Historic Awards event to its upcoming driving Tours and its special 120th edition of its 1000 Mile Trial taking place next year.
