Midsummer Drive-In 2017

Club members were convinced we had cunningly planned for this year’s Midsummer Drive-In to fall on the hottest day of the year and, while we can’t take full credit for this well-timed coincidence, we were just as delighted as you.

Now in its sixteenth year, the Midsummer event saw the Cedar Lawn transformed once again into a motoring marvel, as a stunning selection of mouth-watering machinery graced the landscape.

A delightful assortment of around 90 vehicles, on two and four wheels, for which our 260 members and their guests should be justifiably proud, from the 1920s right up to the present day, ensured there was something to capture the heart and imagination of each of our attendees – from a 1928 Bentley 6 ½ and a 1959 Norton Velo Special, through to a 1998 Rolls-Royce Olympian Silver Spur III and a 2009 Ariel Atom 3.

Members of the Motoring Committee will have been spotted with their pens and clipboards to hand, as they took on the near-impossible task of judging the vehicles for the Club’s own Concours competition.

Following the dinner in the Cedar Room, the prizes were awarded to the worthy winners in each category and, most-importantly, recognising this year’s Best of Show, which secures the winner a place as one of six cars to be entered by the Club into the Club Trophy at the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace in September.

In 2017, the Club is delighted to reveal the winners of the following categories:

The delightful 1957 Douglas Dragonfly 500 Special, owned by Robert and Erica Maurer

Pre-War (inc. 1940s)
The original 1935 Rolls-Royce 20/25 saloon, owned by Julian and Elizabeth Bishop

The authentic 1968 Daimler Sovereign, owned by Graham Smith OBE

Modern/Performance (1986 to date)
The tidy 2015 Porsche Boxter Spyder, owned by Alexandra Varma

Chairman’s Choice
The glorious 1935 Austin London Taxi, owned by Anthony Allen

Best of Show
The stunning, and completely original, 1911 Renault Tourer, owned by Allan White.

The Club, and its Motoring team, congratulates each of our worthy winners and we thank all our members, and their guests, for participating in what has become one of the most popular events on the Motoring calendar. We look forward to seeing you next year – although we can’t promise the weather…
