Lunch With… Professor Neil Ferguson

03 - 02 - 2022

Pall Mall
Wednesday 2 February

Members and their guests enjoyed a lunch yesterday hosted by Colin Cameron with Professor Neil Ferguson who works on epidemiology and modelling at Imperial College where he is also Vice Dean of the Medical Faculty.

Over a delicious two-course lunch with Club wines, Professor Ferguson took all at the table to the heart of the government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, with his insight from being a key member of ‘SAGE’ and world-renowned modeler of how infections spread in pandemics. He considered the last 18 months of lockdowns and vaccinations, looking beyond out shores to the matter defending all nation states against infectious disease, in this drawing on his central role in fighting Ebola, SARS and Bird Flu over the last 20 years.

Professor Ferguson concluded with a cautiously upbeat assessment of the current situation, hugely welcome to all at the table. After the intensity of the last two years he hopes to have a first holiday since 2020 next month for which the Club armed him with a Club-crested passport cover by way of thanks for his time at the table and wished him a safe – and healthy – passage.
