Thursday 20th April saw the Club host its first-ever Drive-In Cinema at Woodcote Park; and what a success it was!
We welcomed more than 100 members, and their guests, to our Drive-In with a twist, which saw them grace the Cedar Lawn with their impressive machinery.
On the big screen was the classic motoring movie of 1969, The Italian Job, featuring Michael Caine and one of the most iconic car chases of all time – not forgetting the legendary opening scene, which follows a Lamborghini Miura climbing the Italian Alps.
Parked in height order with the lower two-seater sports cars in the front row and the high 4 × 4’s dominating the back, we were pleased to see a spectacular array of members’ cars join us for the evening, including a pair of Ford Mustangs, who’s owners watched the movie in true American-style with their soft-tops lowered, a McLaren 12C and a Volkswagen Camper Van.
Upon arrival, guests were presented with a glass of Champagne in the Cedar Room, before heading over to the Pit Stop food stand to enjoy a range of typical and delicious Drive-In food, including traditional and more daringly-flavoured popcorn.
Despite a rain shower at 7.30am, the rain held off for the duration of the movie and at least one enthusiastic driver hooted his horn for the famous line: ‘you’re only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!’. What’s more, we were delighted to see our members show their appreciation by sounding their horns and flashing their lights as the film finished – the perfect end to a perfect evening.
