Members walking through the Pall Mall rotunda on the morning of Thursday 7 February would have been greeted with an unusual sight. A vehicle covered with a black veil and a crowd of media eagerly waiting beside it. The event was the Rich Energy Haas F1 Team livery reveal, with the American team being the first to reveal its new look before the 2019 season begins. We take you behind the scenes to show you what happened on the day.
Early Thursday morning a covered vehicle arrives through the doors of Pall Mall rotunda. Coordinated by the Club’s experienced team of mechanics, it requires pinpoint precision to get it into the rotunda safely.
7:00 – 8:00am
The car is now in the rotunda covered by its black cloth while the Haas team work busily around it to create its backdrop and check the rotunda sound systems. Upstairs, members of the team are helping to convert the Mountbatten Room into a temporary press conference area ready for the media conference later in the day.
Excitement builds as the media arrive and set up cameras and microphones in and around the rotunda and on the balcony above.
The two Haas racing drivers walk through the rotunda doors; Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean. Whisked up to the St James’s Room their 2019 racing gear is waiting for them. They reappear in the rotunda clad in their racing gear, and join the media and crowd waiting in anticipation of the big unveiling. Not long to go now.
Spectators now fill the rotunda floor and upper balcony with people keen to get the best view possible. Presenter Nicki Shields hushes the crowd and takes to the rotunda floor to introduce members, the media and guests to the unveiling. Nicki now welcomes Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner and the CEO of Rich Energy, William Storey, to the rotunda floor to talk briefly about their new partnership. Shortly after, she is joined by Kevin and Romain who stand beside the covered car.
Kevin and Romain are invited to pull off the black covers and reveal the new Rich Energy Haas F1 Team livery for 2019 to the sounds of applause. The car has a bold black and gold colour scheme and looks fast and menacing under the rotunda lights. The new design represents a fresh new look for the team which is hoping to build on its career in Formula 1.
Nicki joins the drivers and team to ask them for their thoughts on the new design and their feelings towards the season ahead.
The drivers and team head up to the Mountbatten Room for a short press conference. William Storey talks further about the Rich Energy brand and why it has chosen to partner with the Haas F1 Team. The team are relaxed and positive about next season and keen to build on their best Constructor finish last season.
After the press event the drivers sit down for a print media interview session with journalists in the Mountbatten Room.
After the interviews the drivers head to the St James’s Room where they admire the Club’s trophies on display before sitting down for a private team lunch at the Club.
The event marked a special day for the Club as it invited the motorsport community through its doors once again. With a new season not far away, we’ll look forward to seeing how the Haas team performs on the track.
