Accident on the Veteran Car Run: Update on Monday 6 November

Accident on the Veteran Car Run
Update on Monday 6 November 2017

A car participating in this year’s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run was involved in a road traffic accident on Reigate Hill at approximately 11.35am yesterday (Sunday 5 November). Two of the participants were in hospital overnight, one with serious injuries.

The Royal Automobile Club and event organisers Goose are providing all the support we can to the family involved and will continue to do so.

We are working with the police to help establish the circumstances of the accident and will also be conducting our own thorough review, drawing upon the experience and knowledge of the country’s leading experts in veteran cars, to identify any lessons which can be learnt from this accident.

The safety of participants and the public is our highest priority and accidents on the Veteran Car Run are rare. Before it was approved, the revised route for this year was very carefully assessed by a team of experts, including on a test run with veteran cars in damp conditions. Participants were also informed of potential hazards before the event and along the route.

The police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the accident, or with any other information, to contact them on 101, quoting incident reference number P17279402.

If any participants, particularly any who witnessed the accident, would like to contact the Royal Automobile Club to discuss any issues to request advice, please do so by calling 01372 276311 and asking to speak to Jeremy Vaughan, Guy Nicholls or Martin Brown.
