May has seen some standout Motoring events which have taken place across the country, and drawn in an audience of over 500 members and guests. Find the list of events and the links to the relevant reviews below:
Saturday 11 May – KTM Off-Road Experience
The Club’s motorcycling enthusiasts tried their hand at driving their two-wheeled machines off-road at the Golding Barn KTM Experience in West Sussex. By the end of the session members had tried their hand on the larger-off road track with some jumps and steep terrain.
Sunday 12 – Monday 13 May – Bentley Motors Tour
Club members enjoyed a behind the scene Bentley factory tour with Bentley Chairman Adrian Hallmark at the manufacturer’s plant in Crewe. Unlike other production sites, the whole plant contains just two robots, with many of the other manufacturing techniques dating back to the company’s early years.
Tuesday 14 May – Gordon Murray Dinner
Shortly after his lunch celebrating his CBE, the Club welcomed Gordon Murray back through its doors, this time to mark the launch of his new book, ‘One Formula’. The evening celebrated his latest work which focuses on 50 years of amazing car designs.
Thursday 23 May – Peter Grimdsale Book Launch
The Club enjoyed an evening celebrating the best of British motoring at the book launch of Peter Grimsdale’s ‘High Performance – When Britain Ruled the Roads’. Talking Jags, Lotus and everything in between, it was a wonderful reminder of British engineering’s golden years.
Sunday 26 May – Monaco Grand Prix in the Motor House
Club members gathered to watch the iconic Monaco Grand Prix in the impressive surroundings of the Club’s Motor House. After an eventful qualifying, it was all to race for on the day.
Tuesday 28 May – Le Mans Preview Dinner
As the final Le Mans race of this year’s WEC Super Season approaches, the Club previewed the race with some of the drivers competing at the Circuit de la Sarthe. Toyota Gazoo’s Mike Conway and United Autosports Ligier team driver Alex Brundle joined Le Mans expert Bruce Jones on stage after dinner.
Thursday 30 May – 50 Years of ‘The Italian Job
Fifty years after its release, the Club celebrated the birthday of the iconic ‘The Italian Job’ film with original actors, its Oscar winning Director Michael Deeley and three of the MINI models which played such a huge part in the film’s success.
Tuesday 11 June – Sammy Miller Museum Tour
Club motorbike enthusiasts enjoyed a visit to the Sammy Miller Museum, where they were shown around by the 11 times British Motorcycle Champion himself. Amazingly all but 5 of the 400 bike collection displayed in the museum are in full running order and regularly attend historic events.
Thursday 13 June – Her Majesty The Queen at Pall Mall
On Thursday 13 June we were honoured to welcome Her Majesty The Queen, the Club’s Patron, to Pall Mall to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Sir Jackie Stewart OBE winning his first Formula 1 World Championship and his lifetime of achievements.
