This year’s Royal Automobile Club 1000 Mile Trial reached an epic climax, as more than 100 competitors made their way from Winchester to Woodcote Park for the traditional final leg of the run – down the Captain’s Drive to cross the finish line by the Fountain, heralded by the applause of the members who came to cheer them on.
Each of the participants arrived in style in their Pre-War cars, snaking through the chicanes down the Captain’s Drive before being presented with a well-earned glass of champagne and driving under the finish line gantry – the perfect picture opportunity.
Throughout the five days, the competition has been closer than ever before, with just seconds separating the top five, but it was Paul Crosby and Ali Procter driving the fabulous MG TB Supercharged who secured the top spot, becoming the fifth overall winners of the Club’s 1000 Mile Trial – Charles Rolls won the original event which took place in 1900, before it was re-established in 2014.
Club members Duncan Wiltshire in his Bentley 3 Litre and Peter Lovett in his Frazer Nash BMW 328 won class honours, while Club Secretary Miles Wade was awarded the special accolade of ‘Rally Newcomer’ – Navigator – for his map reading skills in his brother-in-law’s Talbot 75.
