Peking – Paris Rally 2016
‘Pontiac for Pride and Performance’
So quoth the advertising of 1940 to good effect as 217,001 cars were produced in Pontiac, Michigan that year including six and eight cylinder models, both sedans and coupes.
This particular car is a six cylinder model of 3.7 litres which completed the Peking to Paris Endurance Rally earlier this summer, driving 13,695km through 11 countries including Mongolia and Russia. The basic chassis, brakes, suspension and engine are essentially original, albeit upgraded for the event. Major modifications were confined to fitting a five-speed gearbox, twin fuel tanks containing 180 litres, safety equipment and modern seats which were much appreciated by the crew!
