CEDARS SPORTS - AUTUMN 2026 TO AUTUMN 2027

What’s Happening

It is 36 years since Cedars Sports opened and, despite regular maintenance and refurbishment, it is in need of major redevelopment to bring it up to an appropriate standard and to accommodate the increased demand for its facilities.

This redevelopment will take around 12 months, starting in late 2026, and will result in:

  • a fully refurbished bright and welcoming reception area, made larger by relocating
  • the central stairs
  • a new area in which to socialise, with light refreshments and snacks, created by
  • incorporating what is now the outdoor courtyard into the building
  • the changing facilities completely refurbished to a higher quality, reorganised and expanded by 20 per cent
  • in response to strong demand from members, two roofed padel tennis courts, with five normal tennis courts remaining
  • an expanded gym, 50 per cent bigger than the current one, significantly upgraded in terms of both décor and equipment and still with magnificent views out across the golf course
  • a second exercise studio, located next to the current one, enabling a much fuller programme of classes to be offered
  • two additional treatment rooms, one of which will be a double
  • a deep relaxation suite for use before and after treatments
  • new heat experiences – a sauna, steam room and plunge pool – accessible from the pool hall and available to all members
  • secure, covered bicycle storage
  • a redeveloped Cedars Sports lawn next to the swimming pool to provide areas for relaxing, socialising and one-to-one training.

What’s the Timetable?

  • The exact timetable will be confirmed as soon as contract negotiations and the project plan are completed, which will be by the end of spring 2026.
  • We currently anticipate Cedars Sports closing in November 2026 and reopening in November 2027.
  • Although we are not able to confirm this until the project plan has been agreed with contractors, it is intended that the padel courts will be constructed in the autumn of 2026, just before the start of the work on the main Cedars Sports building.

What will remain open while the work takes place?

Swimming and tennis

  • Of the existing facilities, the swimming pool and tennis courts will remain open for most of the time.
  • The pool may need to close for a relatively short period (potentially around a month) while new heating and other plant is installed, and the tennis courts while they are being resurfaced and the padel courts are being built.
  • All other existing facilities will be closed throughout the project.

Padel

  • If, as hoped, we are able to construct the padel courts at the very start of the project, they will then be available for members to use while the rest of the redevelopment takes place.

What alternatives will be available while facilities are closed?

  • A great deal of work is going into ensuring that – as far as possible – members can enjoy their exercise and sporting activities at Woodcote Park throughout the period of work.
  • Two high quality (fully plumbed-in and temperature controlled) temporary buildings will be constructed on the Cedar Lawn adjacent to Cedars Sports and will provide:
    • changing facilities and showers for swimmers in a building linked directly to the swimming pool (gym and exercise studio users will be able to use the golf changing facilities)
    • three comfortable and relaxing treatment rooms
    • an exercise studio
    • a fully equipped gym to match the current facilities as closely as possible
    • a reception area and WC facilities.
  • Arrangements for squash are still in development, in discussion with frequent players.
    • The possibility of some of the courts within Cedars Sports being available for part of the construction period is being thoroughly explored but does present a range of major challenges.
  • Plans are also well advanced with Epsom College, Ashtead Squash and Tennis Club and Ebbisham Sports Club – which are all very close to Woodcote Park – to ensure that a busy programme of informal play, coaching and matches can continue throughout the construction period, all with the Club’s squash professionals.
