Applying for Membership

  • Applicants for membership must be proposed and seconded by two existing Full Members who have been members for one year. The applicant should complete and submit an application form including a £100.00 registration fee and a recent passport size portrait photograph.

    Upon receipt of the completed application form, the Membership Office will issue a letter acknowledging receipt. The application form will be placed on the waiting list to be reviewed by the Elections Committee, who may invite the applicant for an interview.

    Total time from application to outcome: approximately ten to eleven months, depending upon the current waiting list, whether the applicant is the child or spouse/civil partner of a member, and whether a candidate is one of those selected for interview.

    Application Forms

    Full Membership
    To be completed by all candidates aged 18 and over wishing to apply for membership. Proposers and seconders are also required to complete this form.

    Junior Membership

    Available to children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews of members between the ages of 13 and 17. To be completed by the Parent/Guardian.

    Woodcote Junior
    Woodcote Junior Membership is available to all children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews of Full Members up to 12 years of age.

  • Applying for Membership

    Q.1 What are the basic requirements to apply for membership?
    A.1 Candidates need to have a proposer and seconder to support their application for membership, and each must have been a Full Member of the Club for at least one year. Candidates also need to complete an application form and must have visited the Pall Mall clubhouse with their proposer and/or seconder and been fully informed about Woodcote Park.

    Q.2 Can two members of the candidate’s family act as his/her proposer and seconder?
    A.2 No, only one family member can act as his/her proposer or seconder, the other member must not be in any way related to the applicant.

    Q.3 What does the application process entail?
    A.3 Upon receipt of the completed application form by the Membership Office, the candidate will be sent an acknowledgement letter and will join the waiting list. During this time, the applicant may be invited to attend an interview with the Elections Committee. The Membership Office will contact the candidate once the application has been reviewed by the Elections Committee to let him/her know the outcome of their decision.   

    Q.4 How long is the waiting list for membership?
    A.4 The current waiting list is approximately twelve months from receipt of the completed application form by the Membership Office. Sons, daughters, spouses and civil partners of members receive priority on the waiting list. 

    Q.5 Who is invited for an interview with the Elections Committee
    A.5 All applicants under the age of 21 will automatically be invited for an interview. If the applicant is aged 21 or above, he/she may still be invited for an interview, for which applicants are selected randomly.

    Q.6 Where can I request an application form?

    Q.7 How can I arrange a tour of the Club?
    A.7 One of the conditions of membership is that applicants must have visited the Pall Mall clubhouse and preferably Woodcote Park with either their proposer or seconder. Once this requirement has been fulfilled, the Membership Office will be happy to give applicants a more detailed tour of the facilities to help them familiarise themselves with the clubhouses and all that they have to offer.

    Membership Categories and Fees

    Q.8 What are this year’s subscription fees?
    A.8 Detailed information about membership categories and fees is available on the Membership section of the Club’s website or from the Membership Office.

    Q.9 Will I have to pay the subscription fee based on my age when I apply for membership, or when I am elected for membership?
    A.9 The subscription fee is based on the candidate’s age when he/she is elected for membership. 

    Q.10 I live outside the 150 mile radius “as the crow flies” from the Pall Mall clubhouse, can I apply for Out of Town membership?
    A.10 New applicants can only apply for Full Membership.  However, if he/she lives 150 miles ‘as the crow flies’ from the Pall Mall clubhouse, he/she can apply for Out of Town membership to take effect from the renewal following completion of one year as a Full Member.

    Proposing new candidates (members only)

    Q.11 How long do I have to know a candidate before I can propose him/her for membership?
    A.11 There is no minimum period of time that a member is required to have known a candidate, only that he/she considers them suitable for membership of the Club

    Q. 12 How many candidates can I propose or second for membership?
    A. 12 There is no limit to how many candidates a member can propose/second

    Q. 13 I would like my child/niece/nephew/grandchild to become a Woodcote Junior/Junior Member: how can I do this?
    A. 13 Junior and Woodcote Junior registration forms can be requested from the Membership Office on members@royalautomobileclub.co.uk or by calling
    01372 229 600. The process is very simple and it takes approximately two weeks.
