Summer Update
Our Woodcote Park Junior Club Championship was held on Sunday 21 of August. Unfortunately several of our "Development" players were unable to attend so 8 girls and boys lined up on a Sunny but breezy afternoon. All the players arrived early for a warm up and preparation session with PGA Professionals John Noble and Darren Wood and set off for a tense but fun filled afternoon on the Old Course.
The tone for the afternoon was set when defending champion, Lewis Davis launched his opening drive over 300 yards to within a short pitch shot from the 1st green. Lewis continued this kind of form throughout the round and stood on the 17th tee at level par for the round, remarkable when you consider his handicap was then 12. Dropped shots at both closing holes gave Lewis a winning gross score of 2 over par 74, a few shots clear of Andrew Phillips in second, who didn't show his usual sparkle around the greens, but will be certainly challenging over the next few years. Back in 3rd place was James Mathison, who also collected the nett prize and followed up a runner up spot in the Surrey Rookie Tour at Betchworth Park a couple of days previous.
Our other competitors on the day included sisters, Charlotte and Lucy Gee, who both would have filled the top 5 places in the Ladies Stableford which was held on the morning of the Championship, with the other competitors, Cameron, James and Ben posting scores that were respectable on the day.
All the prize winners were presented with a certificate and medals which have been presented to the club by the family of the late Mr Frank Caddy in his honour and memory. Mr Caddy was a massive influence in Junior Golf within the club for many years and is sadly missed and remembered fondly by many of the Golf members.
We now have 14 Junior golfers who are training and competing regulary and over the next few years we intend to continue to promote younger golfers up from our beginner and improver sessions which are held every Sunday at 10.00am.
